hints first of all what is a good hunting rifle in the USA, what is some good ammunition and exporting Romania
A buddy of mine in Romania asked me to find out if he can buy a hunting rifle from the USA. I am no expert on this nor on ammunition used. I would like to find out some good types of rifles and ammunition especially also how much they cost in $. Considering that if he finds something he would like to buy it can you tell me anything about how to export/import this to Romania? Much appreciated.

- have no idea on where Romania is much less how to export it there remington .270 bolt action rifle ive had mine for about 7 years no problems except cleaning it which u would have to do that to every gun any ammo that is .270 cal.
- You could try to ship ups but I think customs would not like you very much. If you bought it and shipped it would be in your name. That wouldnt be good either depending on what he would want to use it for. There are plenty of rifles in Romania he could use that would do just as well as an American rifle. Check out web sites that sell ammo. They wont sell to or ship over seas. So if he did have the rifle he couldnt get ammo.
- Tell him to take a quick drive across the Transylvanian Alps to Serbia and buy a fine rifle from the Zastava factory in Kragujevac. I suggest the M70, which is a Mauser action and available in many popular European calibers. Exporting and importing firearms involves a ton of red tape and paperwork and should be left to professionals.
- . Before buying & trying to ship any firearm, contact the Alcohol, Tobacco & firearms division of the federal government & ckeck if it would be legal to do so. Personally, i wouldn't even attempt it. may be illegal, on both sides of the big pond
- Sorry......But BATFE regulations/guidelines will allow "imports" from Romania, but will NOT allow exports of firearms or ammunition to Romania, and as a result any attempts to do so are ILLEGAL.....
- I agree with DJ, the Zastava arms are a fine piece of engineering, and accurate too. It would be easier for him to buy a Zastava, or any number of the european release CZ rifles. Here in the states the european CZ rifles are the most highly sought after for collectors of CZ rifles. As JD informed you, exportation of certain firearms to Romania and certain other countrys is forbidden. Have your friend look into hunting rifles there that are just as good, and in some cases better than their American counterparts.
- You need to get in touch with Romania as per their laws on the importation of firearms. They may not allow people to keep and bear arms there and you could find yourself extradited to Romania on charges of arms dealing. Good rifle is a Remington Model 700. It comes in various calibers so it depends on what your "friend" will be hunting. .223 good for deer. 7.62 nato round good for bear, moose, elk, people. Will penetrate most police and military body armor. You also want to look at the grain size of the ammunition. The higher the grain the faster the bullet will move which increases the range and accuracy and deadly power. It also costs more and adds to rifle kick. If he just wants to kill deer then go for .223 and buy an Eastern European brand. They are churning that stuff out cheap these days.
