How Would You Solve This Dilemma?
You and a group of close Hunting friends (2 people ( 3 total). are on board a sinking ship , and your life raft can hold only 675 pounds, you have only 30 seconds to figure out what to dump if you don’t you’re an idiot you have on board: (1) A prize Buck that you shot that won you an award entitled, Top Buck Of The Year.( 250 pounds) (2) You and the others are (130 pounds, total 390 pounds). (3) A survival kit that has first aid in it (25 pounds). (4) A Supply of food that last you and your group 2 weeks (250 pounds). If you say dump the food you’re idiot.

- First of all, if the buck had won an award for top buck of the year, it had probably been shot awhile back, so you wouldn't have the whole thing with you. That would be stupid. With that taken into account, the total weight is less than what you first figured, the weight is 665 lbs, and if you are carrying the mounted head, it's not going to weigh more than 10 lbs, so you won't have to get rid of anything. Now, go back to your vegetarian section.
- Since the only 130 pound friends I have are hot girls, they can stay. Since one of the under 130-hot-girls I know can sail, I'll assume the situation is possible. That's two-sixty for them, three fifty for me, six-ten total, Leaves sixty five pounds. If we're not rescued in a couple of days we're gonna die anyway of exposure, regardless of food, so food goes but water stays - you die a lot faster without water than food, especially if you are as big as me. Sixty five pounds of water is nine gallons, divided by three people, exposed to the elements, that's a two day supply, four if you stretch it. Additional items can be attached to life vests and tied to the outside of the lifeboat, if they float, or cut loose if not. Aditional containers of water should float fine and can be tied on. I am assuming Ocean because you said Ship. Since I am in the Ocean, it's salt water, so I need fresh water. Everything else is luxury, though some kind of shelter from the sun on the raft would be nice, as would a radio. In your model, of course, the only thing to ditch is the buck and everything else adds up to what I can have, so the question is flawed.
- put the stuff in the life raft and then you three can swim to shore holding on to the side for added flotation, the life raft won't sink because humans are naturally bouyant anyway...damn that was tough, might have been harder if I was like stranded in the ocean or something, but I am presuming we're hunting along a river since it isn't stated.
- Dump the deer, of course. The "one that got away" stories are always better than the real thing, no matter how many awards you won. You're on record for winning the record, the deer can grow to twice its size inside a year, and you have two friends to back you up on it. Besides, the nobility of you saving your two friends at the cost of a record deer, you can go hunting every dang day of the rest of your life and your spouse won't mind.
- I'm not into hunting but I am a bad*ss at silhouettes so I'll take it as a given that I offed Bambi's dad<evil grin>. I also weigh about 45-50 lbs. more than your supposition so I'm taking that into account also. First off the previous four answerers all blew it! 250 is a reasonable weight for a well packed ,crated trophy rack if it's the years best! 10 pounds??? Maybe if it's one of those 'big dogs' with spikes that folks used to bring back from the Texas hill country<g>. I ain't giving up that trophy for some tail or Friends! I can always find more friends and get more tail but an award winning top rate buck? Them's hard to find!! I'm also not spending much time in the water! Both fresh and salt water really mess you up if you spend too much time soaking in it. If I'm needing to worry about a life raft in a river I must be in S. America or such where it's not safe to swim to shore<g>. The trophy goes in the raft, I go in the raft, the survival kit goes in the raft, my guns and ammo (minus two slugs<evil grin> go in the raft and I finish the balance with food dumping the excess. I figure I can keep around 185 pounds of food and that'll keep me going for a *long* time! I'm going to assume the survival kit has a solar still for generating fresh water since all the ocean survival kits I've seen have one! Exposure also isn't going to be a problem since survival kits also have mylar 'space blankets' to protect me from the sun and help keep me warm if it's cold. Anyone that would choose to dump a trophy like that can't really call themselves a hunter! When rescued I'll explain that the trophy was already in the raft to keep it out of the way<g> and it's so sad that my friends went down with the ship before the sharks got them<evil grin>. I'll also make a *fortune* off the blockbuster movie deal that covers me taking the rack, getting off the sinking ship and my heroic ordeal at sea!!!
- Dump the buck but keep the head w/rack (dump the head & keep the rack later, when you have more than 30 seconds). It'll go 'bad,' anyway, before you are rescued. Best. H
- Being we only had 30 seconds cutting the deers head off isnt an option and a dead deer will float on its own because deer have hollow hair which is bouyant and most dead things float. So I would tie it to the raft and let it float behind me. It would piss me off because the meat would spoil in the water .
- Hello, I just wandered in here. I'd dump the Buck & give the poor thing a burrial at sea. I hope there are some lovely veggies and vegan foods in the supply !! How did I get here in the first place though - LOL? Did I get kidnapped or did I have a 'Life on Mars' Experience?
