Turkey Calls?
Has anybody used any of these calls: Lil Deuce Slate Call Hammerin' Crow Call "The Hooter" Owl Call Double D Gold Premium Flex Diaphragm Call These are all in a turkey call kit (From Hunter Specialties) that I bought online. Since this is my first serious attempt at turkey hunting, I just wanted to see if these calls were sufficient.

- THE BEST TURKEY CALLER I KNOW OF IS THE LYNCH,WORLD CHAMPION TURKEY CALLER.
- the lil duece slate will be best for you as a beginner the double d gold diaph will work great but practice alot first they are tricky
- I've used the Lil Duece slate call and several different diaphram calls from HS. The slate is easy to use and can reproduce all the sounds you need. You can learn to cluck, yelp and purr in just a few minutes. The only draw-back to friction calls is your hands are moving and off the gun. Once you have the bird close keep movement to a minimum. That's when the diaphrams are at their best. Both hands are free and there's no movement needed to use them. Once you've mastered those calls, you'll want to get a box call. They are a good, loud, long range call but can also be used to call softer once the bird is coming in. There are tube calls, snuff can calls, push-button calls and the list goes on and on. One you might want to try is a wing-bone call. They are made from wing bones of turkeys (some newer ones are plastic) and have a different sound. I've found in heavily hunted areas where the birds here the same kind of calls all the time, the wing-bone will sometimes be different enough to get their interest. Just so you know, your lips will be sore by the time you've learned how to use the wing-bone call. You have to suck on the end of the call with your lips tight and it takes a while to get used to it. The biggest thing of turkey hunting is concealment. Camo everything you can, stay as still as possible and have patience. Also try several different loads in your gun to see which one shoots best and find the effective range and keep your shots in that distance. Good luck hunting.
